Why Do Telomeres Matter?

You might have heard the word telomeres before — but what are they, and why should you care?

Telomeres are tiny protective caps at the ends of your chromosomes — a bit like the plastic tips on shoelaces that stop them from fraying. Every time your cells divide, your telomeres get a little shorter. Over time, as they become too short, your cells can’t function as well. This is part of the natural ageing process.
